Sportswriter Among Victims of Colorado Shooting

The horrific shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, last Friday has affected various communities across the country.  The hockey journalism community lost a member that morning as well, as Jessica Ghawi (who wrote under the name Jessica Redfield), 25, was among the 12 victims of the mass attack.

Ghawi was part of the Denver-area hockey community and wrote for the website Busted Coverage as an NHL writer for the Colorado Avalanche.  She also interned at Denver radio station 104.3 FM and maintained a personal blog where she posted her insights into both the sports world and her everyday life.  Her writing style was characterized by a witty tongue and extreme attention to detail.

The sports journalism community has lost a talented individual.  Our thoughts and prayers go out of to everyone affected by the tragedy.
