While the Pittsburgh Pirates have hit a bump in the road before the all-star break, the Penguins have been active in the free-agent market. Luckily, Three Rivers…One Show returns to analyze both midseason baseball and the hockey hot stove, featuring input from Matt Shetler, Matt Gajtka and Larry Snyder.

The Pirates’ offense has dried up, so who can the team look to for a spark? As the second half approaches, who can we expect to make this year different from 2012? Also, the guys ladle praise upon the always-effective Bucs bullpen, the continued improvement of Starling Marte and the four all-stars who will represent Pittsburgh in New York next week.

The second half of the show zeroes in on the Penguins. What does the addition of Rob Scuderi mean for the defensive pairings? Which young players are most likely to have the inside track for enhanced roles next season? Where do we go from here regarding the goaltending situation?

Finally, Matt, Matt and Larry deliver their Final Thoughts, featuring the Riverhounds, Pedro Alvarez’ Home Run Derby snub and a quick look at Pitt athletics.
