Someone has to step up on the Steelers very thin receiving core and the rookie Wheaton showed signs of being able to do so.

The Oregon State product only had one catch and a 10-yard rush thrown in but you could see the speed and the potential for Wheaton to do big things this season.

He’s a weapon the Steelers desperately need.

5. Young Linebackers

Other than Jones, other young linebackers opened up some eyes.

Adrian Robinson performed well against the Giants’ third team and provided pressure off the edge, scoring the Steelers only touchdown on a botched snap.

Marshall McFadden could have locked up a roster spot Saturday night, showing the ability to make plays sideline to sideline, recording six tackles on the night.

Brian Rolle also showed the ability to make plays all over the field and finished with four tackles and a sack.

Finally, sixth-round pick Vince Williams looked very explosive and finished with both a sack and tackle for loss.

Overall it was a very good night for the Steelers young linebackers.
