For me, part of the fun of reporting is transporting the reader/viewer/listener to the scene.

I hope I accomplished that with Saturday’s Pittsburgh Riverhounds recap, as the USL Pro soccer club opened its home schedule at Highmark Stadium. Click the link to get the breakdown of a thrilling match in front of a capacity crowd, including a video of the Steel Army supporters celebrating a Hounds goal.

I was also able to head down to the pitch for some photos that further captured the atmosphere:

Defending league MVP and scoring champion Jose Angulo warms up prior to the match against Wilmington. Angulo is off to another hot start, scoring two goals in the Hounds’ first three outings.

In the foreground is Pittsburgh defender Sterling Flunder, who played for the Marshall University soccer team during my time there. (Hope you’ll indulge me this one.) Recent addition Brian Ownby juggles a ball in the background; he is on loan from the Hounds’ MLS affiliate Houston Dynamo.

One more pregame picture, as Hounds fans congregate in the Highmark Stadium restaurant prior to kickoff. The team store is attached to the bar area at the west end of the complex.

On to game action…
