The Pro Football Hall of Fame preseason game is behind us, so let’s head back down the road to Latrobe and check in on the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp.

Both CBSSports.com and Steelers.com reported this morning that the Black and Gold activated free safety Mike Mitchell from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and he is scheduled to practice today.

Last season, the Kentucky native contributed 67 tackles, four interceptions, four sacks and two forced fumbles with the Carolina Panthers.

Mike Prisuta of Steelers.com reported that second-round pick Stephon Tuitt was getting some reps with the first-team defense this weekend.

With nost tackle Steve McLendon not practicing on either Saturday or Sunday, Pittsburgh opted to mover veteran defensive end Cam Thomas into McClendon’s slot and give the Notre Dame product a chance to show what he has learned so far in Dick LeBeau‘s system.

More from Pittsburgh Steelers

Scott Brown of ESPN.com reported that Mike Adams is not doing enough to help his cause to get back into the starting lineup. Adams lost his left tackle gig after four games last season. Kelvin Beachum, who took over for Adams has been solid during one-on-one pass rushing drills.

Meanwhile, the preseason-opening two-deep depth chart was released on Sunday and here are a few observations:

Among the wide receivers, Markus Wheaton is listed as the starter opposite Antonio Brown. Lance Moore is listed as the primary backup to Wheaton while Justin Brown is the primary backup to Brown.

Taking a look at the running backs, LeGarrette Blount is behind Le’Veon Bell with rookie Dri Archer at No. 3 and Tauren Poole at No. 4. Will Johnson is listed as the starting fullback.

First-round pick Ryan Shazier is listed at inside linebacker next to Lawrence Timmons. Second-year safety Shamarko Thomas is listed as the No. 2 strong safety behind Troy Polamalu.

The Steelers’ preseason opener will be against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
