After months of battling, Pitt running back James Conner has revealed what we’ve all long hoped for—he’s cancer free.

I don’t have much to say here, and the majority of this story is yet to come. Conner has proven time and time again that he’s capable of far more than we can imagine.

After a devastating knee injury and a disease that would leave most of us waddling in our own negativity, Conner has remained consistent, with one eye open at his ultimate goal.

My mother recently recovered from breast cancer, and my grandmother died from it. While the two diseases are completely different beasts, I know exactly how difficult it can be to come back from, as I’ve seen it firsthand.

The way James has handled himself is exactly what cancer patients strive for, but often cannot achieve. His constant optimism is uplifting, and now he gets to take that mindset back onto the football field, where he belongs.
