Pittsburgh Pirates Promote Tony Sanchez to Indianapolis
By Matt Shetler
The Pittsburgh Pirates promoted 2009 first round pick Tony Sanchez to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, after a solid month of May has the No. 4 overall pick possibly back on track to reach Pittsburgh soon.
Cory Giger reported following Altoona’s game Sunday night that Sanchez will get the call to the Indians, possibly leaving him one more step away from the majors.
Sanchez hit only .259 with a .718 OPS in April, but rebounded in May, hitting .289 with a .795 OPS. In his last ten games, Sanchez has hit .364 (12-of-33) with six doubles.
There have been mixed reviews about Sanchez with the bat, so we will possibly see what he’s made of with this latest stop.
