Pittsburgh Penguins: Jordan Staal Rumors Continue to Swirl
By Drew Shetler
The Pittsburgh Penguins and General Manager Ray Shero continue to say that they are going to try and resign center Jordan Staal. The problem is the rest of the National Hockey League isn’t buying it.
Rumors continue to swirl over the young and talented center. The longer the rumors continue the harder it is going to be for the Penguins to say no.
Just recently the Carolina Hurricanes have offered young defenseman Justin Faulk, center Brandon Sutter and the eighth overall pick in the draft.
That is a great trade for the Penguins, but to make it even better is that the Hurricanes have discussed taking Paul Martin and his remaining salary off the Penguins.
This is something the Penguins have to seriously consider. Sutter scored 17 goals last season, Faulk is young and talented and has had a great performance in the IIHF World Championships scoring four goals and eight points in eight games. Plus, with the eighth overall pick you are getting a chance for a another star hockey player.
While it is clear that the Penguins don’t want to move Staal, they do want to move some of their defenseman. This could be a trade that they just cant’t say no to.
