Bobby Ryan to the Penguins?
By Drew Shetler
The Pittsburgh Penguins off season has been filled with nothing but rumors and let down. After trading Jordan Staal to the Carolina Hurricanes they were supposed to be getting a big name free agent, but that just hasn’t happened.
It hasn’t been from the lack of trying. Penguins had been linked to names like Zach Praise, Ryan Suter, Rick Nash Alexander Semin and Shane Doan. With the exception of Doan, who is still deciding but wants to stay in Phoenix, they all said thanks but no thanks,
The most recent name to add to that list comes from the Anaheim Ducks. Penguins have been rumored to be in the mix of teams to talking to the Ducks for winger Bobby Ryan. It is widely known that Ryan is unhappy in Anaheim and wants out. However, no names have been mentioned in discussion of a trade.
If the Penguins could pry Ryan from Anaheim this would be a perfect fit for them. Ryan is a proven goal scorer, scoring 30 or more goals in four seasons. Also Ryan played in all 82 games last season and he has played with big names before. Being on a line with Ryan Getzlaf, he will know his role and will fit perfectly playing with Crosby.
The Penguins have competition from their cross town rivals the Philadelphia Flyers. Ryan is a Philly boy and could want to return home. The Buffalo Sabres are also known to be involved for Ryan services.
