Kyle McPherson, Justin Wilson More Proof Why Bucs Future is Bright
By Matt Shetler
The Pittsburgh Pirates may have lost the opening game of their three-game series in San Diego Monday night, but the MLB debuts of Kyle McPherson and Justin Wilson at least offered up a silver lining and more proof of why the Pirates future is so bright.
The duo was called up from Triple-A before last night’s game and tossed a combined three shutout innings and looked good overall, which just shows the amount of good young pitching talent the Bucs should have making their way to the big club before long.
However you have to ask the question of why don’t the Pirates trust their young prospects more?
Tim Williams of Pirates Prospects went into detail about this subject and I agree with Tim that Wilson should have been given a start last night. I also agree with all of his other points about all of the other prospects that seem to not be getting a look, but that’s another story for another day.
But back to Wilson and McPherson, a pair of guys that could help this team down the stretch, whether it is out of the pen or in the rotation.
They won’t get the opportunity.
Wilson will likely be sent down as soon as Chad Qualls is activated and McPherson will go back down when Jordy Mercer returns from paternity leave.
However while their immediate future doesn’t seem like it will be in a Pirates uniform, their long-term future certainly is.
Wilson and McPherson, along with the likes of Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon, Luis Heredia and many other promising young arms gives Bucco fans plenty of hope that the future in Pittsburgh will be a very bright one.
