Pittsburgh Sports Teams Among the Best Looking in Sports

ESPN recently concluded a major project in which they ranked all of the teams in the four major sports by the quality of their uniforms and the classic black-and-gold look of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates did very well in their poll.

The Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Bears, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Boston Bruins and Green Bay Packers were ranked No.’s 1-6 but the Pittsburgh Steelers checked in at No. 7 on their list.

ESPN’s Paul Lukas, who wrote the article, had the following comments on the Steelers’ look.

"Some fans still haven’t gotten over the Steelers’ move away from block uni numbers 15 years ago, but the team’s basic look is still as strong as ever. They’re also the only NFL team with a logo on just one side of the helmet, a quirk that scores a few points in the intangibles column. Ditto for the cross sewn onto Troy Polamalu’s jersey (which probably would prompt a fine if not for the fact that it’s usually covered by his hair)."

The Penguins finished just outside of the Top 25, but still came in at No. 26 in ESPN’s rankings.

"How can you resist a skating penguin? That’s a trick question — everyone knows there’s no way to resist a skating penguin, because a skating penguin is literally irresistible! Once you have that kind of karma going for you, the rest of the uniform falls into place pretty easily."

Finally, the Pirates were ranked in the Top 30 at No. 29 overall.

"That uniform suddenly looks a lot better when they’re winning a few ballgames for a change, right? Fact is, the Buccos have been one of the better-looking MLB teams for a while now, but most fans just haven’t noticed. They could move into the upper echelon of these rankings if they’d just scrap that solid black jersey."

So while our Pittsburgh teams may not win all of the time, at least according to these rankings, they at least look good while they are doing so.

In case you were wondering, the Sacramento Kings took the honors for the worst uniform in sports, followed by the Cincinnati Bengals, Brooklyn Nets, Minnesota Vikings and Colorado Avalanche.
