Defense and goaltending were areas of concern after last season’s playoff loss to Philadelphia, but those aspects were rock solid in the Penguins’ first two games. Who were the standouts among those units? Also, Pittsburgh’s adjusted power play was a news item during last week’s camp, so how did the revamped strategy pan out over the weekend?
Matt, Matt and Zac also talk about strong starts from Evgeni Malkin, James Neal and Kris Letang, how Sidney Crosby looked and why Dan Bylsma has been a great fit as Penguins coach for nearly four full years.
In the final 15 minutes of the show, the trio analyze what the Pirates’ additions of starting pitchers Jeff Karstens and Francisco Liriano might mean and if any trades to strengthen the bench might be on the horizon. Lastly, Matt, Matt and Zac deliver their final thoughts on the world of sports before signing off.
