The Pittsburgh Penguins’ season has had its highs and lows so far.

Currently, they are 15-9-1 and in first place in the Metropolitan Division, but their lead over Washington is only five points, which is not even close to being good enough. If the Penguins are to send a message to the NHL and establish that they are for real this year, they better start to do it soon.

Pittsburgh has been really banged up this season, with long-term injuries to Tomas Vokoun, Rob Scuderi, Beau Bennett and even Chuck Kobasew. This team needs to get healthy or they are not going to go on a deep Stanley Cup run.

It’s unlucky that a lot for the team this year has been sidelined, but if this team can get healthy around maybe Christmas, it’s going to go on a huge run and just say goodbye to everyone in their division.

Pittsburgh also needs to find its huge winning streak its seems to have each year. Over the past four seasons, the Penguins have gone on win streaks of 10 or more to separate themselves in their division. I’m expecting them to go on another win streak this year.

The offense also needs to score. Last season they averaged four or five goals when they got on a roll. I don’t know what it is but I just haven’t seen it this year at all. I really hope they start to find their offense and it better be soon.
