NFL Free Agency: Four Players The Pittsburgh Steelers Should Target
By Josh Svetz
Don’t celebrate just yet. None of these guys are actually on the roster. What are the chances the Steelers make the moves?
In Finley’s case, I would say high.
Finley has a few suitors, but he may not generate the market value once expected. If Finley can be brought in on a cap-friendly contract then it makes sense.
Verner has a moderate chance of coming to Pittsburgh.
I’m not sure if having one of Verner’s college coaches is quite enough incentive for him to sign. Yes, he would fill a huge need and would let the Steelers focus on other positions in the first couple rounds of the draft. However, he is generating a lot of interest from many teams, as he is considered one of the top corners in this year’s free-agent class.
The Steelers would have to shell out some big money for Verner. Frankly, they don’t usually do that. Even though Taylor re-signed at a lower pay rate Monday night, that doesn’t mean Verner will sign.
Look for the Steelers to go elsewhere for their cornerback needs as multiple sources have linked them to the Panthers’ Captain Munnerlyn, the Dolphins’ Nolan Carroll and the Ravens’ Corey Graham.
Raji has a low chance.
First off, the Steelers have no ties to Raji and have not said anything about signing him. Second, the Packers have offered Raji a few deals as reported by Ian Rapaport of NFL.com. While Raji will probably test his value on the market, he most likely won’t receive the money he is looking for and will probably return to the Packers.
Obviously in Cromartie’s case, his inclusion was just a suggestion that would make sense on paper, but barring some shocking developments he isn’t actually a possibility for the Steelers to sign.
This offseason for the Steelers is one of the most important in recent history. With many former veterans that made up the Super Bowl-winning teams of years past either gone or on the decline, its vital that the Steelers make little to no mistakes this offseason.
With that said, this is incredibly exciting and as a fan of my beloved Steelers, I haven’t been this excited for the offseason in a very, very long time. I just hope they make good decisions that get them back to greatness.

What do you think? Do you agree with my opinion? Do you think I’m way off base? Maybe you think the Steelers should sign Mike Vick. Whatever the case, I want to hear your opinion. Comment on this post to discuss this issue.
