Pitt Panthers Football Class of 2015 Recruiting Update

We are a little over two months away from the Pitt Panthers football season opener against Delaware. After an exciting season against powerhouses Florida State, Notre Dame, and Miami, Pitt fans are optimistic that the program is on its way to stability and success in the second season as an ACC member.

Paul Chryst and staff have been hot on the recruiting trail for the Class of 2015, and here are the current commitments for the Pitt Panthers:

  • OT (Scout 82, 3*) (Rivals 34, 3*) (ESPN 49, 3*) Alex Paulina (Canon-McMillan SHS) Canonsburg, PA 6-5/295
  • TE (Scout NR, 2*) (Rivals NR, 3*) (ESPN 13, 3*) Nick Bowers (Kittanning SHS) Kittanning, PA 6-4/220
  • OLB (Scout NR, 3*) (Rivals NR, 3*) (ESPN 60, 3*) Kevin Givens (Altoona HS) Altoona, PA 6-3/230

  • WR (Scout NR, 2*) (Rivals NR, 3*) (ESPN 108, 3*) Tre Tipton (Apollo-Ridge HS) Spring Church, PA 6-1/170
  • DT (Scout 44, 3*) (Rivals 37, 3*) (ESPN 64, 3*) Kraig Howe (Archbishop Alter HS) Kettering, OH 6-3/262
  • RB (Scout NR, 2*) (Rivals 50, 3*) (ESPN NR, NR) Sekai Lindsay (Palm Bay SHS) Melbourne, FL 5-10/205
  • DT (Scout NR, 2*) (Rivals NR, 3*) (ESPN NR, NR) DaVon Hamilton (Pickerington HS Central) Pickerington, OH 6-4/285
  • CB (Scout NR, 2*) (Rivals NR, 2*) (ESPN NR, NR) Dane Jackson (Quaker Valley HS) Leetsdale, PA 6-0/170

I expect the Panthers to add several more talented players over the upcoming months. On a quick glance, it looks like the Panthers have been receiving commitments that aren’t highly rated.  I suggest not panicking and remember that these rankings are very arbitrary. RB James Connor wasn’t highly ranked, and look at his successful season.

It is promising to see a variety of offensive commitments to add more depth to each position, as well as a mix of defensive prospects.  I really am a fan of the the addition of Florida recruits, as this adds much needed speed to the roster.

Wide receiver Quadree Henderson will likely be one of the biggest pieces to the Class of 2015.  This will be the third class for Chryst, in which we will start to visualize his offensive and defensive identities.

As we get closer to the season kickoff, I’ll provide some info on depth charts and predictions for Pitt’s second year in the ACC.
