Last week it seemed that every yard gained by the offense and every point scored was needed in claiming victory on the road against Maryland. Redshirt senior quarterback Clint Trickett was the toast of Morgantown as he completed 37 of 49 for 511 yards and four touchdowns.
Joining in on the aerial attack were senior wide receivers Kevin White, who had a career high 13 receptions for 216 yards while Mario Alford finished with 131 yards on 11 catches and two touchdowns.
Redshirt sophomore Rushel Shell contributed 98 yards rushing on 27 carries and one touchdown at Byrd Stadium. Sophomore running back Wendell Smallwood had 10 carries for 28 yards and four pass receptions for 75 yards.
The spotlight was on the kicking game as placekicker Josh Lambert came thru with a 47-yard field goal on the game’s final play that made 40-37 on the scoreboard in favor of WVU. The redshirt sophomore is 14 of 14 on extra point attempts and 5 of 8 in field goal attempts in three games.
In the win over the Terrapins, redshirt junior linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski led the Mountaineers defense with 10 solo tackles and assisted two more for a total of 12 stops while senior linebacker Brandon Golson contributed 1.5 sacks on the afternoon.
This week WVU wili be without sophomore cornerback Daryl Worley as he was suspended by Hologorsen this week after charges of misdemeanor battery were filed against him over an alleged altercation in a nightclub on Sunday morning.
It will be up to either redshirt senior Ishmael Banks and redshirt sophomore Jaylon Myers to pick up the pieces and claim the position.
