The Battle of Pennsylvania is renewed this evening as the Pittsburgh Pirates (15-16) open a four-game series with the Phillies (11-21) in Philadelphia.

It is the fourth consecutive year that the Pirates and Phillies have played a four-game set at Citizens Bank Park. The Bucs are coming off a 4-3 victory Sunday at home against the St. Louis Cardinals. Tonight is Pittsburgh’s first series of the season against an opponent from the National League Eastern Division.
Lefthander Antonio Bastardo was placed on the Paternity List Monday by the Bucs. Bobby LaFromboise, also a southpaw, was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take his spot. He will wear No. 39.
The Phillies are coming off a 7-4 loss Sunday at home to the New York Mets. They are 7-8 at home this season and in last place in the NL East.

Starting Pitchers: Philadelphia will go with Jerome Williams (2-2, 5.10 ERA). In three starts at home this season the 6-foot-3, 260-pound righthander is 2-0 with a 2.89 ERA.
The Bucs will send Gerrit Cole (4-1, 2.27 ERA) to the hill. The 24-year-old will be making his seventh start of the season. His last start was a 3-0 loss to Cincinnati last Wednesday at PNC Park. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound righthander is 1-1 with a 2.61 ERA in two career starts against the Phillies.
