Wednesday night on the South Side, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds scored one of their biggest victories in franchise history, knocking the Tampa Bay Rowdies out of the U.S. Open Cup with a 1-0 win.
Not only did the win come against a team from the North American Soccer League, supposedly a superior league to the USL in the U.S. Soccer hierarchy, it also clinched a home date with Major League Soccer’s D.C. United on Wednesday, June 17.
That anticipated fourth-round match will mark the first time a squad from America’s premier league visits Highmark Stadium.
But before the team moves on to further action – starting with Saturday’s league game against in-state foe Harrisburg – let’s look back at Wednesday’s landmark triumph over Tampa Bay with a captivating highlight montage put together by Nick Milliron exclusively for City of Champions.
