Steelers: Three keys to victory against the Cleveland Browns

2. Take deep shots on the first possession
While quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has no reason to lack confidence, letting the Miami of Ohio product sling the ball down the field should help him rebound from last week’s egg.
Roethlisberger had his worst performance since his first week back from injury against the Bengals. In addition, offensive coordinator Todd Haley limited him to short throws for much of the game against Baltimore. It wasn’t until the game’s final offensive drive that Roethlisberger tried taking deep shots.
Allowing Roethlisberger to sling the ball down the field should help the offense regain its mojo after one of its worst weeks of the season. A deep pass to Martavis Bryant should ignite the Steeler faithful who will be out in droves due to the short distance between Cleveland and Pittsburgh.
The Browns’ All-Pro cornerback Joe Haden has been on the IR since November, allowing deep passing lanes to expose themselves for the Steelers. Whether a deep shot goes to Bryant, Antonio Brown or Markus Wheaton, the shot will be there.
A deep shot early could put a nail in the coffin, so the Steelers should try to take a risk early in the game. It could end up paying off in the playoffs if the Steelers make it.
Next: Run the ball
