Henry Krieger Coble, Iowa Tight End

Though the signing of Ladarius Green should fill the void left by Heath Miller, the Steelers could still target a tight end at the draft.  Matt Spaeth has only caught 6 for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns over the past 3 seasons with the Black & Gold.  He may be an excellent blocker and bring a veteran presence to the group, he is on the wrong side of 32 and is due little over a $1 million this season.

The Steelers did draft South Allegheny and Penn State tight end Jesse James last season.  James showed improvement as the season went on, but adding a young grinder at tight end could allow the team to part with Spaeth.  A tight end like Iowa’s Henry Krieger Coble

More from Pittsburgh Steelers

In his only season as a full-time starter with the Hawkeyes, Krieger Coble finished with 35 catches 405 yards and 1 touchdown.  Those numbers were good for second on the team, but the Iowa native made a name for himself in the trenches.  Krieger Coble plays aggressive in the run game, showing great ability as an inline blocker.

Unlike Green, James and Spaeth, who are all above 6’6, Krieger Coble is undersized for the position standing 6’3 and weighing under 250.  Despite being small for a tight end, no one can match his team-first attitude and competitive drive on and off the field.  The Steelers and fans alike will fall in love with this kid if the team drafts him.
