Steelers: Final Mock Draft
By Rich Donahue
Carl Nassib, Penn State DE/OLB
Penn State’s Carl Nassib was one of the best stories of the 2015 college football season. He began his career as a walk-on, spending time on special teams his first three seasons. In his senior year, Nassib won the job at defensive end and had one of the best seasons in Penn State history.
Nassib totaled 46 tackles, 19.5 for loss, 6 forced fumbles and led the nations in sacks with 15.5. He earned first team All-Big Ten and first team All-American honors and was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. The star senior also won the Vince Lombardi, Ted Hendricks and Ronnie Lott awards.
Despite being one of the most raw pass rushers in the draft, Nassib might have the best motor of any pass rushing prospect. Blessed with a very long, athletic frame, standing 6’7 277, he is able to get the edge on the offensive tackle with his long strides and power. Taking a pass rusher this raw could be risky for the Steelers, but the upside of Nassib might be too good for the team to pass up.
