Steelers: Final Mock Draft
By Rich Donahue
Cody Kessler, Southern California Quarterback
With the Steelers possibly targeting a quarterback late in the draft, USC’s Cody Kessler makes sense in Round 7. Kessler was a three year starter for the Trojan, leading them to the Pac-12 Championship in 2015.
He is one of the most accurate quarterbacks in this draft, completing 67.5% of his passes while throwing only 19 interceptions in his career. His low interception rate is mainly due to Kessler’s quick release and ability to climb in the pocket when pressured
Kessler did play around a lot of high level recruits at USC. His helped to elevate his stats as he put up 10,000 passing yards and 88 touchdowns. He was a great game manager at USC, but he never won the game on his skills, relying on his star playmakers. Drafting Kessler will not end the search for Big Ben’s replacement, but he could push Landry Jones for the backup job.
