As we finish breaking down the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 91-man roster, let’s take a quick look at the team’s specialists.

There’s a good chance we see the same specialists in 2019 that we saw last season, but there are some new names that could push them off the roster.

Last season, the Steelers had Chris Boswell as their kicker, Jordan Berry as their punter, and Kameron Canaday as their long snapper. That was assumed to remain unchanged this season, but there are three rookies that are threatening their jobs.

Boswell finished last season 13/20 on field goals and 43/48 on extra points. If the Steelers don’t see improvement, he will likely be on his way out. Same with Berry.

Kicker

Chris Boswell, Matthew Wright

Boswell has been kicking well so far this training camp, but Matthew Wright hasn’t been too far behind. Wright, a rookie out of UCF, has looked good and if he doesn’t take over Week 1, Steelers’ fans should remember his name in case Boswell doesn’t deliver early this season.

Punter

Jordan Berry, Ian Berryman

Berry and Berryman have been in a similar battle than Boswell and Wright. Berryman, a rookie out of Western Carolina University, has been punting the ball well this training camp and is pressuring Jordan Berry for his roster spot. Something to keep an eye on, especially if Berry doesn’t show improvement early this season.

Long Snapper

Kameron Canaday, Trevor Wood

Kameron Canaday is still the favorite here, but Trevor Wood brings versatility as a tight end. If Wood can show value at both positions, consider the roster spot his. If he can’t show enough, however, consider Canaday the long snapper in 2019.
