Pittsburgh Penguins Trim Training Camp Roster; Set Lineup For Minnesota Wild

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Wednesday that they have reduced their training camp roster to 37 players.

The Black and Gold assigned 13 players to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League: goaltenders Matt Murray and Eric Hartzell; forwards Scott Wilson, Josh Archibald, Anton Zlobin, Jean-Sebastien Dea, Matia Marcantuoni, Tom Kuhnhackl, Adam Payerl, Bryan Rust and Nick Drazenovic; and defensemen Nick D’Agostino and Harrison Ruopp.

Meanwhile, goaltender Tristan Jarry has been assigned to his junior team, the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League, who are the defending WHL and Memorial Cup champions.

There were four players, forwards Tom Kostopoulos and Conor Sheary and defensemen Alex Boak and Clark Seymour, who have been released from their tryout contracts. They will report to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s training camp.

The 37 players remaining in training camp breaks down as follows: 21 forwards; 13 defensemen; and 3 goaltenders. The roster must be at 23 before the NHL season opens on Thursday, Oct 9.

Mike Johnston‘s squad is 0-2 in preseason action with losses coming against the Red Wings 2-1 on Monday and the Blue Jackets 2-0 on Tuesday.

The Pens play their third preseason game on Thursday night when they host the Minnesota Wild at Consol Energy Center. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.

The lineup to play against the Wild includes goaltenders Thomas Greiss and Jeff Zatkoff; forwards Nick Spaling, Brandon Sutter, Blake Comeau, Beau Bennett, Steve Downie, Andrew Ebbett, Zack Sill, Kasperi Kapanen, Oskar Sundqvist, Marcel Goc, Jayson Megna and Patric Hornqvist; defensemen Rob Scuderi, Scott Harrington, Paul Martin, Brian Dumoulin, Robert Bortuzzo, and Simon Despres.
