Pittsburgh Native Barron Completes Olympic Race
By Andy Green
Bethel Park native Trevor Barron competed in the 20km Race Walk at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London on Saturday. His time of 1:22:46 placed him 26th among the 48 finishers, and he steadily improved his position throughout the race. The 19-year old Barron was the only American to compete in the event. Chen Ding of China won the gold medal with an Olympic Record time of 1:18:46.
Barron’s athletic achievement is all the more impressive considering his medical history. When he was 14, he underwent brain surgery for epilepsy at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He is currently a computer science major at Colorado College.
