Pittsburgh Riverhounds MatchDay: Hounds Start August Vs. L.A. Galaxy II
By Larry Snyder
Having closed the books on the month of July – and a strong 4-2 showing during the month – the Pittsburgh Riverhounds look to start August with a victory tonight against the third-place L.A. Galaxy II at Highmark Stadium.
Tonight’s contest is the first and only match between the two squads this season. It is set to get underway at 7 p.m.
For those in the Steel Army unable to make to the South Side, the contest will be streamed live on the USL Pro’s YouTube channel.
The Riverhounds (5-11-5, 20 points) have climbed out of last place in the USL Pro standings for the first time since April. They are 2-6-2 at home this season.
Pittsburgh will be without Jose Angulo, who suffered a high ankle sprain and shin contusion in the opening minute of last week’s 5-0 road loss to Sacramento Republic FC. The 5-foot-11 forward leads the Hounds in goals with eight, points with 16, and shots with 40 in 19 games played.
Midfielders Micahel Green, Robert Vincent, Kevin Kerr along with defender Brian Fekete each have two goals on the season. Vincent is second on the squad with 27 shots.

The Galaxy II (11-6-4, 37 points) are coming off a 3-1 loss to the City Islanders on Wednesday at the Skyline Sports Complex in Harrisburg. They are 4-4-3 on the road this season.
Los Angeles is led by forward Chandler Hoffman, who has 10 goals and one assist in 13 matches while forward Charles Rugg has six goals in 19 games and midfielder Bradford Jamieson has five goals in 14 contests.
Galaxy II goalkeeper Cody Laurendi has a 1.294 goals against average in 17 matches and is third in the league in wins with nine.
It could be do or die this evening for the Riverhounds as they try to keep their playoff hopes from fading. They trail the eighth place Charleston Battery by five points with six matches remaining after this weekend.
The Hounds are home again along the Monongahela River on Friday, Aug 8 for a 7 p.m. match against the ninth-place Orange County Blues FC (8-12-0, 24 points). The Blues are the only team in the league without any ties on their record.
Riverhounds Reinforcements: Pittsburgh was represented on the USL Pro Team of the Week by Jose Angulo for his hat trick on the road that helped down the Real Salt Lake Reserves 5-2.
There was also a kudo for midfielder Rob Vincent as he earned honorable mention for Week 19.
