The Pittsburgh Penguins (42-26-12, 96 points) seek to remain one of the Wild Card teams in the Eastern Conference this evening as they host the New York Islanders.

The Pens are in fourth place in the Metropolitan Division and are holding onto the second and final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. They are one point behind the Ottawa Senators (42-26-13, 97 points), and one point ahead of the Boston Bruins (41-27-13, 95 points) in the WC standings.
Jack Capuano’s squad (46-28-6, 98 points) is in third place in the Metro and have clinched a playoff spot. The Isles lost Tuesday 5-4 to the Flyers in Philadelphia. They are 3-5-2 in their last ten contests.
It is the final game of the five-game regular season series between these two Metro combatants. New York is 3-1-0 against the Pens and have won three consecutive contests against the Black and Gold. Pittsburgh won the first match-up 3-1 Saturday, Oct. 18 here in the Steel City.

The special teams advantage tips toward the Penguins during the season series. They scored four power-play goals to the Islanders two. However, New York’s penalty kill unit has performed well in the past month. The Islanders killed 35-of-37 opportunities over the last 16 games. Pittsburgh’s power play has converted four of its last 19 opportunities.

Head coach Mike Johnston told the Pen’s web site said that Derrick Pouliot, who was injured Tuesday against the Senators, will not play tonight against the Isles. It means that Pittsburgh will go again with just five defensemen. He had no update on defenseman Kris Letang’s concussion and defenseman Christian Ehrhoff remains day-to-day.
Marc-Andre Fleury gets the nod in goal this evening. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound netminder has a 13-3-3 career home record against the Islanders.
Up Next: The Black and Gold conclude the regular season on the road when they travel to the First Niagara Center on Saturday, April 11 to take on the Buffalo Sabres (23-49-8, 54 points). The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ROOT Sports Pittsburgh.
