Pitt basketball’s top 5 ACC games to mark on your calendar
By Brett Tunno
The Miami Hurricanes are currently ranked 13th with an 11-1 record. Miami steamrolled past Mississippi State 105-79, No. 16 Utah 90-66, No. 22 Butler 85-75, and Florida 66-55.
The Hurricanes have been tested and have prevailed, despite a 78-77 loss to Northeastern.
Last season, Miami defeated Pitt at the Peterson Events Center, and that loss was part of a stretch where the Panthers faltered and fell out of favor in the NCAA Tournament.
Miami is very talented, returning their key starters from last season. Their guard play is very strong. 6-foot-5 senior guard Sheldon McCllelan averages 15.4 ppg, senior guard Angel Rodriguez scores 12.5 ppg, sophomore guard Ja’Quan Newton chips in 11.8 ppg, and 6-foot-6 junior guard Davon Reed 10.6 ppg. 7-foot senior center Tonye Jekiri averages 9.2 ppg and 10.1 rpg.
I would not be surprised if Miami is Top 10 or Top 5 by the time Pitt travels to face them in early February.
